• Malawi Rising Body, Mind & Soul release their debut album ‘Kwacha Malawi’

  It has now been a year since Body, Mind & Soul took the grand prize at the Music Crossroads InterRegional Festival 2007. In the meantime the group has been brewing up a Malawian musical storm, the likes of which has never seen or heard!

  They are calling it “Kwacha Malawi” (Good morning Malawi) and this startling first release from Body, Mind & Soul will certainly wake many people to the wealth of talent that resides within the country. The six piece from Mzuzu (Malawi) describes their music as Voodjazz – the healing music – and it certainly does wonders for the spirit. The six track album takes the listener through a diverse musical voyage, from more upbeat grooves like “Malawi” and the title track, to soulful Afro acoustic vibes like “Tikulira” and “Wani Wogha”.

  Behind the music is a deep message stemming from the hardships faced throughout day-to-day life in one of Africa’s poorest nations. BM&S speak out that, despite the situation, there is always a positive solution to counter society’s wrongs. The Music Crossroads program has helped them develop this message as well as their music and performance over the last two years and they are now ready, eager and energised on the dawn of their music success.

  Street Rat, the group’s lead charismatic vocalist & songwriter, is a phenomenal talent both on stage and in the studio. He looks forward to their 2008 European Tour, “Now that we have laid it down we can’t wait to get it out to the people, to bring to them the Body, Mind & Soul” he says with a grin “we are gonna give the people some Malawian magic that’s gonna make them move!”
